Charlotte Comic Con

If you’re in the Charlotte, NC area on December 27 stop by the Charlotte Comic Con. I’m going to be making my first ever convention appearance at this little mini-con. I’ll be selling the first ever printed version of Nathan Sorry there. It’s a limited run, black and white mini-comic version of the first 28 pages of the story. I’ll be joined by a couple of my Sketch Charlotte colleagues who will have their own mini-comics to shill.

Brief Baby Hiatus

Just wanted to pop in to let everyone know why there hasn’t been a new page lately. My wife and I just had our second baby this week so, as you’d expect, we’re kind of consumed with that right now. But I hope to get back to the drawing board in a couple of days.

Say Hi and Tell Me How You Found This Comic

I’m always curious to know who’s out there so please say hi by commenting on this post and tell me who you are. Also, tell me how you found out about Nathan Sorry. What brought you here (banner ad? Warren Ellis? Yesbutnobutyes?) I’m always curious to know who’s out there and would love to build more of a dialogue with readers here.

Hey, if you have a comic of your own or something you’d like to plug feel free to do that here too.

New page is coming in the next couple of days. I should mention though that my wife is going to have a baby within the next three weeks so once that happens I’m predicting my schedule will get thrown out of whack for a couple of weeks. Just so you all know.

The new homepage

You might have noticed that the main url (www.richbarrett.com/nathansorry or www.nathansorry.com) now takes you to a splash page rather than the comic itself. This is the big site change I’ve been planning on implementing and I have two reasons for doing it:

1. I’m going to be running some banner ads soon to promote the site and I wanted new readers to come in to a simple splash page that would give them the option of jumping to the first page, reading a little about the story or seeing what the newest page looks like. I don’t like the idea of plopping new readers into the middle of the comic and then having them figure out what to do from there.

2. This is a “Not Safe For Work” comic and it’s about to start getting a little more R rated than it’s been. I’m not sure I want people stumbling across the comic or opening it at work and unexpectedly finding some boobies or something. At least this way they’ll be warned a little.

Of course I realize for regular readers this is now a two-step process to getting to the latest page but actually it isn’t. The url that will always bring you to the latest page is now: http://www.richbarrett.com/nathansorry/latest-comic/ So feel free to bookmark that page if you’d like.

The Story So Far…

I’m slowly rolling out some site updates over the next week or two, in advance of some advertising I’m going to start running on other sites. The big one will be a front page that will act as a launching point for new readers. I haven’t decided yet whether that page will be what everyone sees when they come to the site or not. I’d guess regular readers would rather be taken to the latest page without having to click to it but it might be for the best for the Latest Page to exist in a URL separate from the index link.

In the meantime, I’ve added a new page that you can find in the top navigation called “The Story So Far”.  As the book gets longer it’s going to become a little more of a time investment for new readers to catch up, plus regular readers may begin to forget certain plot points over time. So this page will act as a concise recap of what’s happened so far.
