Free Comic Book Day both Online and Off

by Rich on May 3, 2011 at 11:31 am

This Saturday (May 7th) is Free Comic Book Day and I will have a couple of offerings both online and in the real world.

First off, Graphic.ly, where I have been selling the first two “issues” of Nathan Sorry for the past few months will be offering Nathan Sorry #1 for free that day only. There are lots of other free comics being offered through Graphic.ly on Saturday and here is a list of them: Graphic.ly Celebrates Free Comic Book Day

If you live in the Charlotte, NC area most local comic shops will have a copy of the Sketch Charlotte Free Comic Book Day anthology. My 3 page Nathan Sorry “trailer” will be part of that book alongside a lot of great stuff by Charlotte-area comic artists Henry Eudy, Tom Davidson, Eraklis Petmezas, Chrissie Zullo, Brigit Scheide and a lot more.

I should also mention that you can get the 1st issue of Nathan Sorry for free over at The Illustration Section but it’s free there all the time so it’s not really part of their Free Comic Book Day offerings.

Plus, check back here on Saturday and I might just have something else to give away.

UPDATE:
Come back here to the site on Saturday and you’ll be able to download FREE CBZ and PDF format versions of Nathan Sorry Vol.1 the first 64 page graphic novel collection of the story. I will be selling a print version of the book shortly and will probably offer the digital version to anyone who buys a copy then but for one day only I’m just going to give it all away for free.

UPDATE:
There’s a new download page here where you can get Nathan Sorry Vol. 1 in two different formats.

UPDATE:
Thanks to everyone who downloaded the Free Comic Book Day digital files. That page has been taken down now but I’ll be offering digital downloads and print versions of that book for sale very soon.

This is part of a 3 page comic book “trailer” I’m putting together for Nathan Sorry. It will appear in the Sketch Charlotte comic anthology on Free Comic Book Day in Charlotte, NC area comic book shops. I will probably have separate free printed versions of it this summer and will distribute it in some way digitally.

For now, consider this a “teaser” for a “trailer”.

Download Nathan Sorry #1 for FREE

I recently added a STORE section where I will be selling PDFs of each issue of Nathan Sorry but to start things out I am simply going to give the first issue away for FREE. If you have an iPad it is very easy to load a PDF onto it via iTunes and read it via a variety of applications like iBooks or ComicZeal. PDFs also work on just about any other device you can think of which makes it a good universal choice.

So, hop on over to the Store and download your copy. Future issues will be added soon at the 99¢ price point.

Also, issue #1 is now also FREE on The Illustrated Section. And issue #2 is available there right now for only 99¢.

The Illustrated Section and other news

by Rich on January 26, 2011 at 9:02 am

- This week sees the launch of a brand new marketplace for digital comics called The Illustrated Section. It is run by professional illustrator Dani Jones and is meant to provide a place for independent creators to sell PDF versions of their comics, pictures books, sketchbooks and art instruction books. I’m excited to be involved in the launch of this new website by selling the first issue of Nathan Sorry for only 99¢. I really believe in this model of selling PDFs of your work and will begin selling them (and maybe some other formats) here on this site in the coming weeks.

Warren Ellis mentioned The Illustrated Section on his blog yesterday not once but twice. Warren is very interested in promoting ways for independent creators to get their work out to new audiences and he seems to approve of the PDF approach as he notes in his second post.

- Last weekend’s Charlotte Mini-Con was a big success. This was my second year appearing at this show and I wound up TRIPLING my sales this year compared to last year. In fact I am now completely sold out of my black and white mini-comic editions of Nathan Sorry #1. I will soon be going to print on Nathan Sorry #1-4 using a Print On Demand service and may even consider a trade-sized collection of the same issues.

The Mini-Con was a blast. I sat between Dustin Harbin and J. Chris Campbell and Duane Ballenger (this is the second con in a row I’ve sat next to Duane – a super nice guy) which was great. Dustin is really nice guy and incredibly funny. His star is on the rise and it was inspring to see how he works the crowds at a convention and to listen to his ideas about comics and cartooning in general.

Here’s a photo of me making a sale despite the complete lack of smile on my face. Obviously I still have a lot to learn from Dustin. More photos courtesy of The Dollarbin here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dollarbin/sets/72157625889911398/with/5381231811/

Charlotte Mini-Con January 22, 2010

Charlotte Mini-ConIf you’re in the Charlotte, NC area on January 22 stop by The Palmer Bldg. on 7th street for the annual Charlotte Mini-Con hosted by Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find (the people who bring you HeroesCon each year). I’ll be making my 2nd appearance there and I’ll be with some local superstars like Dustin Harbin, Jason Latour, Chris Brunner, Chrissie Zullo, Bridgit Scheide and more. I’ll be selling some mini-comics of Nathan Sorry #1 and 2, showing some original artwork and I’ll probably be doing some sketches if anyone wants them.
