- The secret origin of Nathan Sorry continues!
- I’m going to be appearing at the Charlotte Mini-Con this Sunday. I’ll be selling this stuff plus some Animal Alphabet flash cards which I should get back from the printer today. This is my third year appearing at the Mini-Con. It’s a fun little show and I’m especially excited this year because the headline guest is Cliff Chiang who is just an amazing cartoonist.
- A while back I started a planned series “reviews” of other webcomics I enjoy and got through one whole webcomic before abandoning it for no real reason other than it takes time to write even a simple little something about someone’s comic. But now’s a good time to talk about a comic I had planned on mentioning because today it’s running a little pinup I did (see how I just bring this back to myself?)
Usually whether I like the art in a comic is a big deciding factor of whether I even give it a chance. The art in Christopher Wrann’s Aquarium Drinking is really not that great. He’ll be the first to tell you that because Christopher is a writer, not an artist. What makes Aquarium Drinking work is that he’s a very good writer.
Chris had this comic he really wanted to do about a guy who loses his corporate job and winds up tending bar with his friend. He decided to get it done by drawing the thing himself and if that doesn’t perfectly encapsulate the DIY attitude of webcomics I don’t know what does. Sure, there are lots of webcomics out there that are far from professional looking but the difference here is Chris is a good, funny writer with a great handle on his cast of characters and he has managed to write a comic that is not hindered by his drawing skills. Instead it allows his sense of dialogue and characterization shine.
Aquarium Drinking has a likable cast of characters that embody a lot of the spirit of the times. It’s very 21st century, post-recession America. Chris is on vacation now but has a nice archive of comics built up for you to catch up on for when he returns: www.aquariumdrinking.com

This week, CNN.com launched a new section devoted to “geek” interests. Among the geeky things Geek Out! will be covering are comics and I’m honored to be quoted in the first of their articles
I’ve just added a new STORE link to the navigation which will take you to store I’ve set up on BigCartel.com so that I can begin selling the new print edition of Nathan Sorry Vol. 1. Bear with me through any hiccups as I get this rolling and please let me know if you run into any said hiccups. Big Cartel really makes it all pretty easy though so I don’t expect any.
