I'm convinced this movie was made so that John Travolta could go on Oprah and cry about how brave firemen are (I have no idea if he actually did this but I'd be willing to bet money on it). The fire scenes are actually pretty well done, but unfortunately for the movie, firemen put out fires and once these firemen do that the movie doesn't know what to do with itself.
He totally did do this, I saw it for myself. The Phoenix guy balled too.
