When I got this book as a gift I had figured it would be a basic how-to-draw guide going through the usual lessons on drawing the figure. It goes through some of that briefly but the scope of the book is much wider covering all aspects of drawing sequential art for comics. Frankly a lot of these theories on the ways to use comic art to best tell stories were better covered in Will Eisner's classic theory book. But this is a great beginner's guide.
It probably covers too much ground. Possibly leaving out some technical stuff like portraits and perspective which were jsut too brief to be of much use would have left more room for further discussion on composition and panel layouts.
I'll be interested in checking out the companion guide on inking which I would assume will be a little more focused on technique.
