Men and Cartoons - Jonathan Lethem »
This is the sequel to one of the great conversation films of all time, "Before Sunrise". Though the original was not a great film, having seen it in college, it's one of those movies that feels like it was of my time and for my generation. It was romantic and idealistic and made you want to live it.
The sequel manages to add depth to that film by this time being romantic and realistic. It's actually the perfect recap to the original by taking place 9 years later and showing us that the two lovers never actually met up again like they had planned to at the end of "Before Sunrise". When they run into each other now, the regret from what could have been is very real.
The movie plays out in real time and the conversation is very natural. At times interesting, insightful, annoying, pretentious, funny, romantic, regretful and fascinating.
