My farewell to YesButNoButYes

YBNBY_logoBack in 2005 I was one of the original writers for the pop culture blog YesButNoButYes.com. It was started by my boss at the time when I was an Art Director at JWT in NY. Blogging was still relatively new those days and YBNBY filled a need that a lof of us felt we had at the time: a place to show off all the weird and stupid shit we’d find while surfing the web at work. Sure, Boing Boing was the great link blog for showing off the cool stuff but where could you go for the less cerebral and more boobie-related stuff?

Over time YBNBY evolved into a site that created it’s own content. Top 10 lists, Where Are They Nows, stuff like that. I started to gravitate towards my own specialities and interests: comics. I did a very popular article that pulled together some funny panels from old comics. I briefly started doing my own comic on the site, True Celebrity Fiction, which only lasted for two comics but which you can read here. Eventually, as I got busier with other things, my sole contribution was a weekly preview of the new comic releases called Wednesday is New Comics Day which I even started syndicating across two other websites.

YBNBY introduced me to blogging and since then I’ve started a couple of my own group blogs and come in and out of a few others, none of them as successful as YBNBY has been. This month, they are closing their doors and officially shutting the website down. An end of an era.

Anyway, all of the contributors, past and present, are writing eulogies on the site over the next two weeks and I was the first one to go. You can read my farewell here.
